Basasos, or more commonly known as shallow dogs, are a species of amphibious mammals native to the Kayamanan Peninsula. Their bodies are elongated and lithe, with long, whip-like tails. Their four legs end in webbed paws and slender membrenous fins allow them to move effortlessly in water as well as on land. Their snouts are slightly squashed, giving them appearances reminiscent of otters or seals. Easily domesticated and trainable, babasos serve a similar role to guard and hunting dogs, especially for fishing communities.
