The device releases a beam of pure thermal energy which is 5 feet wide whose endpoint resides at a place you can see and is within range. Each creature caught between you and the endpoint of the beam must make a DEX saving throw. Upon a failure, the creature takes 3d8 fire damage. On a success, they take half as much damage. It also sets aflame any flammable object between you and the endpoint of the beam, assuming it is not being worn or held.   Any creature killed by this beam is burned to a crisp.   As a bonus action on your turn, you may additionally move the endpoint of the beam to a new location within the range of the device. Any creature caught between the previous position of the beam and the new position of the beam must re-make the DEX saving throw and take the appropriate fire damage.   If you move while concentrating on using this device, the device will fizzle and the effect will instantly end.
At higher levels: When supercharged, for each gadget slot above the third, the damage increases by 1d8.
