Minkus does not care for people and prefers to focus on his work harnessing the power of atifice (?). His parents were nobles who had toiled to set him on a path to become an envoy in their kings cabinet; a career path which Minkus found detestable. His parents were distant, and left Minkus' care largely in the hands of nanies during his early childhood. His parents showed him little affection, and imposed heavy expectations. Minkus discovered the art of Artifice (?) Around the time he was 12, and spent every waking moment leaning all he could. At the age of 18 Minkus left his home to work on his craft in solitude. Minkus toiled at his craft for the next 30 years, with no other company than his trusty homunculous, Robinson Voltwood, which was one of his first major creations. Minkus' only human interaction occurred when he needed to make a rare excursion to a city for materials he could not make on his own. An event which occurred maybe 2-3 times in his 30 years of hermitage. One day a traveler came across his Forrest hideaway, on the brink of death. Minkus allowed this individual to take some of his spoiled meat rations, thereby saving their life. After some pleading and convincing, Minkus also allowed the traveler to stay the night in his hideout so to protect against the heavy rain, under the constant watch of Robinson. The traveler was grateful for the perceived kindness. Minkus provided very little conversation, which included no elaboration on the nature of his work, however the traveler was beyond impressed with what he saw. They departed the next day. Minkus never asked a name, and had not given them another thought afterward. Until one day when Minkus received a correspondence accepting him in to the ranks of the USDA. He did not recognize the name of the sender, but after some thought concluded that this was likely sent by the traveler he had aided many years before. Under normal circumstances, Minkus would have quickly disposed of the letter, however it arrived at a time when his research had reached a plateu. He required materials which would require him to traverse around the world to find, and would more efficiently be obtained via one of the world's trading hubs. As such, he decided to leave his solitude in order to see what civilization has to offer.
