Chapter One: History of Celestials

Any Lord worth their salt has a celestial in their house. Fragile and weak, most would consider them useless, good for nothing but fertilizer, if not for that special shimmer in their hair and those sapphire eyes. They are what defines a true Lord from the rest. You know you’ve made it when you have a celestial in your halls.

But where did our beloved celestials come from? The most advanced researchers believe they are either the product of a magic experiment in an age long passed or they are muted humans, hailing from Topside like the rest. Other theories have been formed but most demons choose one of those two. Though the details allude us still. When did Celestials first become part of our society? Where there here before Lucifer or after? How could they have existed before demons began to keep and care for them? We will likely never have answers to these questions. What we do know, is they are a part of our society as much as war or Lesser Demons.

Queen Miratheem, whose name only persists to this day due to her role in the founding of the Imperial Academy, was one of the first to introduce Celestials into warfare. Some sixty centuries later, Prince Imo revolutionized defensive magic using celestials. Then General Aiyag created the revolutionary Syphon Claw, which has since been adopted by all of Hell. Each step of the way, celestials became more and more important to us. Regardless of where they came from, they are here to stay.

A well read demon might have heard that Celestials are Humans but that may not make sense to many. After all, Celestials are capable of hold great magic while humans have few, if any, uses. So where does this information come from?

There are a few reasons for why we categorize Celestials as Human. The first is that thier physical appearance and qualities are very similar. They have natural browns and tans for their skin and are the same size. Furthermore, Celestials and Humans have been known to breed. On Topside, they coexist without any differentiation. This makes sense since humans and Celestials both have no aptitude for magic and wouldn’t be able to recognize what truly makes Celestials special.

Given the fact that Celestials and Humans can breed, tells us they are at least closely related in the way we are similar enough to breed with Lesser Demons. It is this similarity which convinces many that Celestials are some sort of off-shoot of Humans or vice versa.

Ultimately it is not uncommon to refer to Celestial’s as human, especially when highlighting their frail bodies and minds.

What is the difference between a species and a bloodline when it comes to Celestials? All Humans and Celestials are part of the same species, no matter how wildly different they are. They can breed and share blood transfusions. Without Demon interference, Humans and Celestials will breed together without prejudice. It is this exact reason that Sacrificed Celestials tend to have lower power quotients than Hellborne Celestials, their blood and power being muddled by Human influence.

Bloodlines are entirely a Demon construct, the result of generations of breeding Celestials here in Hell Proper. It is through Blooedlines that we are able to track skin color, size, build, fertility, and, most importantly, power quotient. Many Lords will keep meticulous records of their Celestial breeding, both as a form of hobby and for trading purposes.

Some Bloodlines were bred to do specific jobs. The intelligent Armu Bloodline was bred by Countess Armu to be able to file and manage their master’s paperwork. The large and sturdy Emskini Bloodline were bred to be able to survive journeys better than other Celestials. Lastly, the Mourningstar Bloodline was bred to be the most powerful in terms of their magic quotient. If one is buying their first Celestial, they should pay attention to the Bloodline they are choosing to find the right Celestial for their lifestyle.
