His mother had been a warrior, that he was sure of.

She used to hum a song while she worked on the farm, once he asked her what it was and she paused with such force he wondered if he should never have brought it up. She turned to him slowly and said,

"Thats a wár song Yamie, nevér sing it- less ye mean it."

He didn't ask what war it was about until it was too late and she was crying to her children on her deathbed as her newest lay dead and swaddled in a blanket she had made for it.

"When the White Raven Flies...." She coughed up. She was too beautiful to be looking like this he had thought, too strong, too willed.

"Know that we'll see you soon" They chanted back, enchanted by her even as she lay nearly lifeless covered in blood and sweat. She looked to Father then and murmured a firm "Go." before turning to his sister and holding her hands tight.

Geniveve was the last one to speak to her, and he wanted to hate her for it, but he could tell how much it haunted her soul. So like the song, he never brought it up again.

(Chapter One middle) bits about his life now, have a week go by since we start looking into adult yamie's life.

Dark ginger hair hanged over the captain's face as he lowered the anchor to port, the back tied up in typical Maliakian fashion with braids and knots. His skin was tanned from years on the sea but still much lighter than most of his crew. Only his wife with Ivory Skin and Ebony hair could envy it. His wild face was made for the sea and his body had been shaped by it, covered now in a long-sleeved leather jacket over cotton shirts and kilted pants.

Helping a passenger down the bridge, he ran into a young boy hurriedly making his way towards the Daggar.

"Sir!.. Sir!... Captian! I've got it!" Shouted Hamish as he tripped on a rope and started tumbling towards the water.

"Aye ye best be careful round here Hæch, don't want ye falling in the sea when we've just reached the land..." He chuckled catching the boy and planting him squarely on the deck.

"Of course, of course, sir, I'm terribly sorry"

"Aye how many times have I told ye, you don't need to be sorry for being a clumsy bastard ehh"

He checked the boy for scrapes before kneeling down to whisper,

"So you've got it..."

"Yes Sir," said the brunette confidently with a smile creeping up his face. The Captian took the parcel Hammish was handing him, lifted the wrappings, and took out the small healer's knife from within.

"Have you got any change?" Asked the Captian as he admired the bronze blade, its markings were old probably derived of the old language. Unlike his sister he had never bothered to learn their blood tongue, but he recognized some of the symbols as sacred to the Rih Rosa, Mother, and Healer. The end of the blade was covered in forest green leather delicately carved like vines.

"Aye, 3 silvers!"

"3! Is this made of scraps?" he exclaimed taking in the blade again.

"Nah, he just wanted to get rid of it, not many healers round these parts who know what to do with a knife like that, which is perfect for Olivia, look it even matches her eyes!"

Blue eyes so close yet not in blood stared at one another,

"Oh aye son." The captain replied.

Upon finally settling down in their quarters for the next few days, Olivia's husband pinned her to the wall before whispering...

"I have something for you...."

Wide emerald eyes emerged

"I swear one of these days you're going to come home with a child all wrapped neat and tidy in a bow for me.. oh wait, you already have!" she laughed as he placed the wrapping in her hands.

He continued staring at her as she opened it. Upon seeing the joy leap to her face he started to explain the blades origin,

"I know I know!" she gushed, "my apprentice master back in Rhoa had one, though normally they're made of cheaper metals and light cloth, how did you manage this?" Her face dropped at the thought of him spending too much for her again.

"well, apparently this design isn't as popular as it is on the west..."

"that would explain it, rih the heart attack I nearly had." she sighed. Though quickly excitement came back to her face "I'll go get my kit!" she yelled running out the door to the common spaces they'd be sharing with the crew and the rest of the inn.

The next day the captain went about his business as Oliva took Hammish to the market to restock her supplies. Her training at Rhoa had made her an expert in Herbology throughout the five nations, but it was difficult as often the locals had different names for the plants, so she brought Hamish along to assist.

The port city of Rainhagen was a few miles south of Mytheria and placed in the middle of Moonwattag bay. Long ago it was the home of the Stone Seer's but after the Alrasian invasions over two centuries ago had been changed to the sad depletes Pahlin was after Alras left it to the same fate. The Crossroads district, where they were staying wasn't the poorest but most definitely not the most glamorous. Olivia walked through the creepy atmosphere to the market, she passed by the dark brick and wooden walls that made up the townhouses and the low thatched roofs of the private sector. Since Alras drove the old tribes from the land into hiding, the lands of Maliak hadn't been the same, and the people had become weary of strangers which is why Olivia had to be extra careful to keep with local slang and dialects.

She had a knack for picking up accents, a fact she was very proud of. It came in handy when they were on the open road, being able to blend it and say she had long ago come from the place they were currently staying. Kept Alrasian Soldiers and paranoid locals off their backs until they moved onto the next.

have olivia have a heline like conversation with Arabella sparrow

she bumps into someone and her kit is opened reveling the blade, because it's different shes able to right it off as a common healers blade but its a stressful situation

She gets back to the inn and the maidkeeper has a package for her husband, she is confused because no one should know where they were. she thinks maybe her sister in law is picking up some old magic to locate her brother because he refuses to write often

Yingren stared in awe at the ring tied to a small piece of parchment his unknowing wife had just handed him as he sits square middle at the dining room table. A single candle lit the room now, for he had thought to check the statements from the ship's last dock. It was his mother's, and it had been a long time since he had felt the small piece of metal.  He had asked father for it after she was gone when he saw that her body had been stripped of its metal valuables, but he hadn't known what his son was asking for. His wife only wore one ring, her wedding ring.

Yamie's wife had secrets too, ones they both knew the world would kill to own, but his mothers could kill all of Gaeven. And he had neglected to share his mother's when Olivia gave him hers. But he couldn't have helped it, his mother spelled the secret shut to her kin.

"Who's it from," She asked coming back into the room with their adopted son hot on her heels.

"I don't know..." It wasn't quite a lie, no one could have known enough about his mother or could have known the ring was once hers.

"The White Raven Flies.." said young Hamish, having taken the note from the table. Yingren's face dropped and turned to his son, then to his wife, and then to the open window behind her. The Raven in question was sitting on the windowsill and surprisingly had the same eyes as his mother. an

"It's time to chose," It said, but in a voice distinctly male.

"Geniveve has already decided to join our ranks," And looking up to a perplexed Olivia,

"They can come too you know."

"Yes.. she told me that much"

He wondered if he'd be allowed to tell them now, and started to ponder the conversation they might have.

"Good then we are on the same page, you have until dawn." Turning back to the sky he looks about to take off, but then turns slowly around to look back at the man,

"I've missed you, brother." And with a start, he realizes the eyes were that of his unborn little brother, which meant... She was alive.

The warrior had survived.
