Guiding the Boar Killer

3704 0 0

Glato is walking out of the forest one day with his Harpy companions. He decides to try something with them. He makes a target similar to what Linee’s daughter did and starts swinging it around. The Harpies try attacking it. Glato gives them meat when they grab it. Glato then lets it go for the Harpies to chase. But it is caught midair by Boar Killer who lands and looks at Glato. Glato takes the target back and gives her meat. Glato then thinks about it for a second after Boar Killer leaves. He pulls out his horn and gives it a soft blow as to not alarm anyone and starts spinning the target again. Boar Killer turns around and Glato throws the target which Boar Killer goes for. Glato practices with Boar Killer for a bit.

Glato calls a meeting with the farmers and a few of their hands that live near the forest. Glato says “Now I know everyone here has heard what happened a Bidi’s farm.”

Bidi speaks up saying “I made a good sum off that kill of hers”

Glato says “Yes, I may have found a way to call her when a boar come on to the fields.” Glato pulls out the target saying “Use the alert horns when you see a boar. If you hear an alert horn but don’t see a boar use your horn to pass the alert along. If you see Boar Killer blow your horn and spin a target like this around.” He starts spinning the target “She will dive for it. You then toss the target towards where you heard the alert horn. I hope she will realize we are leading her to a boar. I would also try to feed her if she stands her ground over the boar. She knows we use the meat and knows you may have some.”

As Glato leaves the meeting, he sees his hunting Harpies sitting outside next to Speaker. Speaker says to Glato “Hello, Hello.”

Glato says back to her “Hello, Speaker?”

Speaker stops and thinks for a moment then says “What you try teach Great Sky Hunter.”

Glato realizes that the Great Sky Hunter is probably the name the Harpies gave to Boar Killer. Glato says “You know she hunts Boars. We find the Boars a problem. More than Harpies. I was trying to teach her away to know when we have a Boar in the fields. So she can kill it for us.”

Speaker thinks about it for a moment then goes to the hunting Harpies and talks to them. Speaker returns to Glato after a short conversation saying “They want to help.”

Glato says “Tell them that when they hear a horn blown to lead Boar…I mean the Great Sky Hunter to the Boar by flying the way this is thrown in.” He pulls out the target on the sting to show them.

The Harpy Eagle is flying over the fields near the forest a few days later. She hears a horn in the distance and looks towards it but keeps flying away from it. Soon two of her lesser kin fly up and in front of her squawking and trying to get her to change directions. She decides to do want they want and follow them. She soon sees landwalkers in the fields spinning the target. But they throw the target as the Harpies approach. The Harpy Eagle is a little confused until she sees a smallish boar in a field.

Several farmhands have a boar surrounded and are trying to keep it from doing any more damage. The boar looks at one of the farmhands and prepares to charge at him. The farmhand prepares to try and injury the boar if it charges him. He knows he might not survive the encounter.

As the boar starts its charge, it is suddenly snatched by the Harpy Eagle as she flies by. Some of the farmhands do a double-take at the sudden disappearance of the boar. The Harpy Eagle flies up a little and drops the boar. The boar lets out a squeal and lands with a loud thud. The Harpy Eagle lands next to the Boar and calls to the farmhands.

The farmhands approach and see the boar is indeed dead. They approach the boar, but the Harpy Eagle snaps at them. One of the farmhands gives up his rations for the day knowing that they will be rewarded for the boar carcass. The Harpy Eagle takes the food and leaves.
