#6: Candor (Syntaritov Variant)

Invented by: Ancestors, modified by Solebarr Syntaritov
Type: Utility
Complexity: Moderate (C4)
We use it for: interrogation, investigation, ill-advised party games

Appearance: bright, pale yellow and transparent. Looks like watered-down lemonade and has roughly the same viscosity.

Taste: sharp, sour, citrusy. Usually tastes like ground-up lime rind, but the Syntaritov variant introduces a current of orange to bring in some sweetness and make it more palatable/easier to blend into another drink.

Effect: lowers the consumant's inhibitions, and makes them more inclined to speak freely about how they feel and what they think. It is often misconstrued as a truth serum, which it is not; it will not compel a consumant to reveal their secrets, but simply make them more likely to be honest with their feelings and opinions (which can lead them to revealing secrets that they may not want to keep in the first place). Despite the potential for damaging relationships, Candor is sometimes used in drinking games for the brave or foolish.

Notes

  • This variation is easier to drink than the old stuff. Why you wouldn't make a veracity draught sweet in the first place is beyond me. It's easier to get this sort of stuff into people when it tastes good. -Solebarr
  • Throw some ice, a straw, and a toothpick umbrella in it. Most people mistake it for lemonade and will drink the whole thing within the hour. Works like a charm. -Solebarr
  • For sophisticated clients, follow the note above, then cut some strawberry slices and mix them in, or put a lemon slice on the edge, and make sure it's served on a coaster. Classier targets will turn their nose up at lemonade unless it feels fancy. -Mistofelees
