Boreas had successfully recovered from the series of procedures that were performed on his body. The surgeon believed that his determination, will power, and positivity were just as important to his success as was his youth, health, and strength. The new skeletal structure was carefully constructed from protein infused nanocarbons. For the most part his body accepted the new material well and his marrow regen went smoothly. His skull, was miraculously the one part of him that had been successfully shielded in the accident, but the procedure required a partial replacement to ensure reduced risk of shearing.

“It is when a patient acclimates to the augmented and the weak points that have not been augmented are at risk of fractures and breakage. We don’t want you to cause damage to yourself in the future once you’ve gotten use to your new features.”

“Makes sense.” Boreas conceded, though he wasn’t too keen on having anyone getting so close to his brain for any reason, even a good one.

After five weeks of gruelling treatments and lengthy procedures Boreas was finally able to walk out of the hospital. His short bout of rehabilitation helped him get used to the differences from pre- and post- operation. He still felt somewhat lighter than before. It was strange to think that most of the bones in his body were replaced with stronger materials that were actually lighter. He felt nimble and quick as he strode through a small market promenade towards the hole in the wall apartment he was renting at the time of the accident.

“Proceed to the lower northeast quadrant of the Delva Sector.”

Boreas stopped in his tracks. He looked around to see who had spoken to him. It wasn’t terribly busy so had someone talked to him he should have known who spoke.

“You have been relocated.”

That voice!

He remembered the communication device in his ear. During the whole time the thing had been silent. He had totally forgotten about it. No one had said anything to him about it, so it didn’t surprise him that it had been left installed.

“I’ve been moved?”

He was now at a fork in the road, as they say. The direction he had been going was where his apartment had been. To go to the new location he would have had to double back to this point to head there.

They were tracking him as well, not just listening.

He turned, grumbling under his breath and headed to the access tunnel between this sector and the next. Each sector was a small collection of domes on the surface of Miranda. Due to the small size of the moon, there were only five such sectors. At the access tunnel he expected to be questioned as per protocol. He barely had to flash his personal ID before being allowed to pass.

“Are these the perks I can get used to?” His question wasn’t for anyone within earshot. It was for that voice in his head.

“Corsair boulevard at Orion lane. 6845, unit G23.”

When he walked up to the building it was a nondescript structure. It wasn’t the tallest in the area but the unit was near the top. There seemed to be no security which was odd. This area looked to be less than savoury but the building appeared to be quiet. The occasional neighbour paid him no heed as he crossed the small central courtyard and strolled into the main foyer. The ‘vator doors opened and someone stepped out nonchalantly and without a glance or a word uttered. Inside, Boreas spied a small metal key card. On it was a holographic etching.

G23

“Not creepy at all.”

Standing inside the apartment was unnerving. His belongings had been moved  here, much of it was laid out similar to how he had left everything in his old rental. It looked like he had stayed here for the past few days already but he had never seen this room before. The eerie juxtaposition made him uncomfortable.

He walked around the rooms and explored the space and made note of the views outside the windows. There was no true balcony but the main window in the u it opened up in such a way that he could lean and gaze outward—a feature reminiscent of the architecture in some old world colonies.

“Home sweet home!”
