Target a creature within range and which you can see with the device. It will zap them with a quick bolt of energy and transform them into a separate animal. An unwilling creature must make a WIS saving throw to avoid the effect. A shapeshifter or Class III+ reality bender always succeeds on the saving throw.
The transformation lasts for the duration, or until the creature drops to 0 hit points or dies. The new form can be any beast whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target's. The target's ability scores, including mental ability scores, are replaced by the chosen beast. It retains alignment and personality, however.
The target also assumes the hit points of the beast chosen. When the effect subsides, the creature returns to the hit points it had before the transformation occurred. If the creature returns to its original form due to reaching 0 hit points, then any excess damage (negative hit points) is dealt as damage to the normal form of the creature. As long as the normal form doesn't reach 0 hit points, the creature isn't knocked unconscious.
The creature is also limited to the actions it can perform based on its new form. In addition, it cannot talk, use anomalous items, cast spells, or do anything else which requires speech or hands.
The creature's gear melds into the new form. The creature cannot activate, use, wield, or otherwise benefit from any of its equipment in the form.
