The Time Chamber

The heart of the citadel holds the Time Chamber, a circular room with a massive hourglass. The artifact lies hidden within the shifting sands.

Key prisms

If the DM decides that the group need to gather the Key Prisms, the door will remain locked until all 3 are retrieved and activated with the command words.

NPCs

@Thal, the sorcerer who initiated the time loop, awaits the party. He reveals that the hourglass controls the loop and offers a choice: break the cycle by destroying it or claim the artifact and doom the people in the Forgotten Citadel.

Destroying the hourglass

When the heroes try to attack the hourglass, the main foe appears and casts temporal shift on the hourglass until the fight is concluded, or until the dragon is convinced.

Multiple loops

The dragon/wyrm itself is a timekeeper. It is aware of the loops and encounters with the party and will react in such. For example, if they attack the dragon/wyrm during its initial talk, it will ambush the party next times. If the party react to the ambush, it may be in a different location next time.

Foes

Pick one of the following and sprinkle in some extra foes depending on the skill of the party. Further ideas you do are making sure the enemies (besides the time dragon) don't respawn, making sure they do multiple loops.

Legendary Actions

Legendary Actions: The Epoch Dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. It can take only one legendary action at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn.
Temporal Strike: The Epoch Dragon makes a claw attack. The target is frozen in time for 1d2 turns.
Temporal Distortion: The Epoch Dragon casts slow on a creature it can see within 60 feet.

The Epoch Dragon is a majestic creature, its silvery-white scales shimmering like moonlight on water. As it ages, these scales darken, revealing the passage of time. An hourglass-shaped mask adorns its eyes, symbolizing its mastery over temporal forces. Black stripes run along its serpentine body, hinting at the enigma that is time itself.

The Chronoscale Wyrm is a smaller relative of the Epoch Dragon, with shimmering silver-white scales that hint at its connection to time. Its hourglass-shaped mask over its eyes is less pronounced, and its black stripes are more subtle.
