Crow King's Tavern

Val frowns, before tugging the glove back on with his fangs. "Goodness knows some people need to be taken out of power. The Good People of the Hills won't see it that way. There's a game and the Tavern Master got outplayed by most Folk's standards. It's a careful balancing act. You need to play by their rules without looking weak. Shows of force are good, but can be overdone. Reputation can go a long way, assuming they've heard of you or have reason to believe the titles you throw at them are legitimate. Outplaying them at their own game is the surest way to succeed... unfortunately you're just starting at something they've had forever to practice. Even killing them might not solve the problem- in some planes, the Folk reincarnate over and over- slowly regaining memories the longer their current life lasts." He shakes his head. "There's never a good way around these things."

Tethra looks at the three of them, before puffing out his chest feather and clicking his beak and teeth together. "Well said, young Valravn!" He taps his foot on the counter in a approximation of applause. "We'll make a diplomat out of you yet! And perhaps the young lady is on to something! Maybe your touch would be appreciated on this venture! Eh? Eh?" Val frowns at Tethra, no longer speaking in the rough cawing but not in a deep, posh accent.

Tethra regards Es and Leafa. "Apologies, madams. This body is nominally Tethra's, my emissary to the young Witch King," He gestures to Val. "I myself am currently using my subject's body to speak through. You may call me Corvus, King of Crows, Regent of Ravens, and Father of the Flock, Arche Fey of The Sable Spire and the Count of Carrion. A pleasure to meet you."
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/17/2020
Es gulps. She gets up and bows, a little awkwardly still, even though she practiced for hours last night in her room "Your Majesty," she says quietly "You honor us with your presence. I am Esmerelda Lightblade, formerly of the city of Raven's Bluff, now of the Nexus.  May I entreat you to help us in the planning of this foray? Your help and knowledge may well be key to our success." Oh, I hope I did that right.
Dani/Leafa (She/Her) — 09/17/2020
Leafa just sort of stares and blinks a few times and the sudden change in atmosphere and...the crow suddenly speaking like that...she feels she should be bowing but she's a bit frozen, most likely out of confusion but she bows a little in her chair before looking to Es, still confused yet intrigued. She does a quiet clap to her and whispers "Y-you did good!"
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/17/2020
"I'm no royalty, madam, there's no need for that." Corvus/Tethra chirps. He tilts his head, all three eyes blinking rapidly and looking at Es up and down, as if peering through her. "I myself am no fan of Alaneon's. A brute who cleaves to the line of what is widely considered 'fair play'. And, quite frankly, I find him to be a dreadfully boring conversationalist that thinks he's far more clever than he is. Just my impressions, however." He stops and preens a moment. "I could help, in a few ways. But there is always a cost, even if a discount is included for the favor of the young Witch King." Corvus/Tethra looks up at Val who stares back, impassively.

"In all reality, it depends on if you are willing to pay my price. But such negotiations should not be conducted through proxies. Young Witch King," He looks up at Val fully now. "Might I trouble you for a guide and invitation to this Nexus, that I might discuss terms face to face?"

Val frowns. "Sure. I can do that."

"Capital!" Corvus/Tethra caws, throwing out his wings. "I shall see you later this evening, Vixis-time, that is. I look forward to meeting your rescue party." There's a moment of silence, before: "... FANCY GLASS?"

Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/17/2020
Val makes his way to the Gates, Tethra still perched on his shoulder. Long road ahead, though the actual time it would take could vary greatly depending on... well, everything. "The things I get involved in. Mother would be pleased." Val rolls his eyes and steps through the gates, heading home for the first time in a while.
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/17/2020
Crows and ravens begin to flock around the Gates, anticipating something. A building tension in the air, almost. Among them, larger birds not seen in the Nexus- three-eyed, sable birds the size of a large housecat. Dark red eyes glinting in the evening light. With each passing minute, the flock grows, dark feathers and cawing birds arriving by the dozens.

Watching.

Waiting.
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/17/2020
The birds grow silent. The tension rises, the air heavy with footsteps not yet taken. The flock watches intently as a shabby looking man with a dark claw steps forth from the gates, shielding himself from the hail with the claw. He turns and waits.

A heartbeat.
Two heartbeats.
Three.

And from the gate "steps" a tall figure. Topping over eleven feet in height, closer to twelve. Dressed in dark leather garb, a hat perched upon its head, with a red-eyed raven atop it. A cane held in front of it, the top held in both hands with the other end resting gently on the ground. It did not walk. It glides forward, silently, effortlessly. "Why, young Witch King. You did not inform me of the foul weather."

"Apologies, Your Grace." Val says, his voice low and slow.

"It is no matter." Corvus lifts a single, large hand- the black flesh seemingly fused with the sleeves of his garb, and without a word, diverts the hail over himself and Val, the skyborne projectiles altering course in midair. "Shall we go?"

Val, looking up at the Arche Fey, silently nods, and leads him into the Nexus- the creature gliding silently behind him.

Ravens and crows, along with one of the large three-eyed birds land on the window sill, peering into the tavern. Feathers rustle and the sound of cawing comes, muffled from beyond the glass. The three-eyed Hagcrow, looks into the tavern, locking eyes with the first person to return the gaze, and loudly caws: "THE CROW KING COMETH."
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/17/2020
Izzy settles back against the bar as the conversation trickles away from the urgent matter to other things. As her mind drifts to her usual cascade of Izzy Thoughts ™️, the increasing cawing draws her attention. Turning to look at the windows, Izzy balks. The three eyed Crow stares her dead in the eye and announces the imminent arrival. She stares, wide-eyed, for a moment, and then tuuuuurns from the bar, slides noodle-like off the stool, and then darts to the stairwell leading to the downstairs, pulls a dagger from her belt and unceremoniously hucks it down into the basement. She turns to the rest of the bar with a too wide smile and panicked eyed.

"OKAY." Izzy claps her hands. "INCOMING. BE EXTRA POLITE, DON'T GIVE YOUR NAME, REFER TO THEM AS FAIR FOLK. And whatever you do." She looks around the room seriously. "Do not. Attack."
Vensis(Fae):Illari/Al/Barns/Tik — 09/17/2020
"My stay has been very pleasant, Ursu Valdric. It is my honor to meet you. I personally don't know much about the fey...Negotiations I am better at, but I would need to now what I have to negotiate with." Afhiri gives him another nod looking toward Eider with her smile.

"How wonderful, thank you for anything you've been able to find out. All helps me in the long run. I wouldn't mind speaking later at all, but of course the current events seem more important right now." Glancing over at the others as they spoke. She was going to agree to take a booth only to be cut short by the flutter of wings and cawing of many a beak. The ominous announcement from the bird in the window had her study it for a breath before looking back to the two men.

"Seems we'll be privy to the Crow King." Giving the very tall woman's advice note.
Jerald(H/H) Ur/Rol/Psalm/Eimsury — 09/17/2020
"I'm glad to hear that, and Ursu will do just fine," He looks over at Eider and gives a tentative nod, "We can do that if you would prefer. I th-" Ursu looks over at the three eyed bird, hearing it caw through the window. He felt an intense feeling in his chest. He turns Izzy as she claps, listening carefully and giving a short nod.
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/17/2020
"You want me to negotiate a deal. With an Archfey." Vhalias takes a deeeeeeeeep breath. Okay. A lot to throw on someone, but they'll survive. They've parleyed in far crazier situations, certainly. There was that time in the Crown Ward... But no matter. This is business, and Vhalias does good business. "I can do this. I'm good with words."

They can work with 'very soon', they just need an hour or so to get facts straight, get a little more info on this Corvus—

And then corvids appear at the windows.

They look around as the energy shifts in the room, and turn to Jinora. "Ill-timed, you said."
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/17/2020
Es goes pale "Rats it. I was hoping for more time to bring you up to speed." She looks around at the crowded tavern "I...suggest maybe we go upstairs for this? I...I was the one who talked to him earlier...if you and Jinora go on upstairs, I...I'll be the herald and then you can take over? Oh and..." She slips the ring over to Vhalias "This ring has a spell that will let you understand Sylvan. In case it's needed." She smiles waveringly "We'll get through this. He doesn't like Alaneon. If...if we can come to an agreement on price, he will help us. Callias trusts Val. I trust Callias." Oh gods, I hope this works
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/17/2020
after hearing the large birb sound Jinora will jump out of her stool almost hitting the ground before floating to catch herself..  she gets to her feet & picking up her spell book reaching deeply into her pockets.. sticking her tongue out a little as she reaches for something ... responding to Vhal with a long painful sigh....

saying a few choice words in undercommon under her breath as she scrambles for a component "mother bitch, you think id be better prepared than this"

saying exasperatedly as she listens & responds quickly "that sounds good Es"

she'll take out a clay ziggurat that was in her bag & putting her finger to her forehead as a purple glow fills her eyes & the spot she touched... casting Tongues on herself before breathing looking at the door in anticipation.. then speaking to Vhal in telepathy making eye contact to show that Jinora can do that shell say "Sorry for not asking consent first, but I think we might need this.. you ready?"
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
The door to the Tavern opens and Val steps in, shabby as always. Dark eye searches the room, looking over everyone and reading the general energy level. "About what I expected." He comments idly. He steps slightly to the side and clears his throat, voice low and slow like lethargic syrup. "As Witch King of Sept Rasten and Speaker for the Wyldfae of mine home, I introduce Corvus, Firstborn Son of the Elderkin, Favored Son of Mother Monster, the King of Crows, the Regent of Ravens, Father of the Flock, Sir of the Sable Spire."

He bows deep, Tethra flying off his shoulder and landing on the bar. "CROW KING. CROW KING." He caws out loudly, flapping his wings. The doorway remains empty- suddenly filled by a great shadow- and in an instant it falls to the floor, sliding forward across the doorway and swfitly reforming, standing at his full height of nearly twelve feet, the cane gently raps against the floor as Corvus stands before the assembled patrons.

"We greet you, Denizens of the Nexus. We are pleased at last to meet your acquaintance. The young Witch King has informed us that you are in need of assistance that we are poised to give. We would love to reach an agreement over the course of negotiations."

The bone beak comprising his face does not move as he speaks in his posh manner. Empty sockets glow with a dull red light. He smells of damp earth, blood, and belladonna. The crows on the window sills do not caw or flap when he speaks.

Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
Izzy, a brilliant smile fixed in place, bows, at first, to the shabby dressed man with a sweeping gesture-- and then straightens again. Not the crow king. That makes sense, she thought he was a little normal looking to be a fey, but then again, fey could sort of do what they wanted.

"Thank you for the intro.... duction...." She trails off, looking up, UP, as the King steps-- GLIDES through the door. How tall? Too tall. Taller than her. Izzy's eye twitches as she tries not to frown. This was Barkus all over again.

"Ah. One moment, Your Grace." Izzy turns around and quickly hops on the bar, standing on it. She turns back around, to the tavern, now of a height or perhaps slightly taller than their guest. All was right with the world. She bows with a flourish. "We of the Nexus greet you, King of Crows, with our sincerest appreciation and humility. It is an honour to seek your aid in this matter. You may call me Izzy, if this suits Your Grace."
Vensis(Fae):Illari/Al/Barns/Tik — 09/18/2020
Afhiri took the tall woman's lead, standing and bowing when she did the tall beaked creature now a dominating the tavern. Her curiosity brought her eyes back to the fey looking over his form, noting everything about the Crow King. She'd stay quiet and absorb all the information she could once the negotiation and exchange started.
Jerald(H/H) Ur/Rol/Psalm/Eimsury — 09/18/2020
Ursu watches as the daunting figure enters in the tavern. He gives a quick nod of the head in greeting, but remains silent. In awe of what was occuring
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/18/2020
Be polite. Don't give your name. Refer to the Fey as Fair Folk. Don't attack. Corvus doesn't like Alaneon.

Got it.

They take the ring from Es, blinking as they slip it on. They stand, glancing between Jinora and Es. "You want me to take point? Then get behind me, and get humble."

They step forward, seeing that they fall into flank behind them as they watch the man herald the arrival of the Archfey. They take a deep breath, squashing back their ego just a scratch. They school their features. Shoulders back, straightens posture, just as the tutors drilled into them at Arach-Tinilith. To those around them, Vhalias seems to take on an entirely different demeanor— dangerously smooth, dangerously poised.

Like a proper Drow, whether they like it or not.

Earth, blood, belladonna. Ah... almost smells like Arach-Tinilith itself. The ravens everywhere are enough to make them miss Vornall.

They take a single step forward, lowering into a graceful, low bow. "We are honored to be graced by your eminence, Your Grace. I am the Black Sheep of the Black Network Zhentarim, Shadow of the North Ward, the Velvetine of Waterdeep. You may simply call me Velvetine, if this pleases you."
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/18/2020
Es sighs in relief. Vhalias has this. Do not speak unless spoken to, but should she introduce herself or not? She looks at the very....VERY....tall Crow King and gulps. Don't speak unless spoken to. She contents herself with a bow and takes station behind Vhalias to their right.
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/18/2020
jinora seeing this ominous figure she will get a bit of adrenaline.. but breaths to keep her calm..  she will float a little as she watches Corvus enter in a magnificent entrance deserving of her respect, she will hover about 2 inches off the ground & will watch intently looking into his eyes with a slight but friendly smile... taking a proper stance.. hands behind her back.. almost like she's always been this way... the etiquette she had to learn the hard way

shell stay back to allow Vhal to take the lead waiting until a proper time for her to speak introducing herself

as she takes a graceful & deep bow keeping it short & sweet
"It is wonderful to be in your presence... King of Crows.. as we progress through the night, if it suits you.. you may refer to me as the 'Mothed Mage' it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
Corvus bows his head, either as much as he can or as much as he cares to. "We hope this business deal can be fruitful for all sides involved. While I am not knowledgable on the one you seek, I care little for your foe." He stops and looks towards the bar. He glides across the bar, the cane lifting ever so slightly as he arrives almost too quickly in front of Izzy. He tilts his head, the dull red light of his eye examining her closely. He slowly turns to face the rest of the tavern, casting a gaze over all of them. "This one," He gestures at Izzy with his cane before turning back to face her. "Miss Izzy. We like you. We're so sick of the constant kowtowing- tell a joke for fuck's sake!" He gestures at her again, waving a finger approvingly. "If half of you are as entertaining as this one, we'll get along famously."

He returns to Vhalias, gliding silently across the floor. "Apologies, Velvetine, Mothed Mage, the quiet one, and all the others. Had to get that one off of our chest." He sets the cane down again, standing before Vhalias. "Now then. Onto business at hand-where would our gracious hosts wish for us to discuss our affairs?"
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
Izzy has just enough wherewithal to tense up instead of flinch as the fey king zips toward her ohboythisisunsettling-- the smile freezes to her face, replacing a reflexive flinch for tension, as they-- approve of her? Izzy visibly relaxes, tossing an insufferably smug look around the bar as she preens. "WELL, you are by far the Fairest of the Folk I have met, Your Grace, and I have met a few. With the exception of one, but they're a close friend, you understand." Izzy starts to pick up some bottles to make drinks while THE KING talks to Vhalias.
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/18/2020
Vhalias blinks and looks up when Corvus snaps at the room to lighten up, rising out of their bow. Oh, thank fuck. After a beat, they visibly relax and breathe out. Their posture loses its stiffness, and they offer Corvus a grin. "I am grateful, Your Grace. Between you and me, I quite like being able to breathe."

They glance back when they catch sight of Izzy preparing to make drinks. "If it suits you, the tavern we stand in is the domain of Daemin, my beloved and the Eladrin we hope to rescue. On their behalf, Your Grace, I would like to offer up the hospitality they themselves would show you. Would you deign to have a drink by the fire while we parley? No spirit you can think of is unavailable here, as we enjoy the variety that comes of our unique location."
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/18/2020
Es also relaxes a little. Things seem to be going as well as could be expected. She smiles inwardly at her new nickname. No one ever called her Quiet One before...
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/18/2020
at the mention of more drinking Jinora will laugh as the tension is lessened dropping quickly the posture & just floating in a loose posture... very excited at the idea of drinking more as she still observing Corvus she'll start making her way to the fire looking forward to the conversation.
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
Corvus examines the building they're in. "This will do fine, in that case." He glides his way over to the fire. "We do fondly recall a particular type of brandy served in the Courts of King Nothing- another one of our kind. Supposedly it was brewed from the blood of a red dragon, but we have reason to doubt that claim's veracity." He stops. "Young Witch King, if you would join us. And our emissary as well."

Val, who'd been content to let the others discuss this was about to sit at the bar. Sighing, he stands up and allows Tethra to perch on his shoulder as he walks, like a pleb, over to the fireplace.

"We know you do not drink, young Witch King, but if you would remain present and bear witness to our negotiations. You have stocks within the Nexus as well as the Great Game, making you as impartial as we are likely to find." Corvus tilts his head, looking at Val. "By the law of the Cailleach, a witness must be present for one of the Progeny to enter into a bargain with mortals." He explains to the others.

Val sighs. "As Witch King of Sept Rasten, I do bear witness to these proceedings regarding the Great Game and the fate of the Archfey in whose home we stand." He looks at Corvus as if to say 'Happy?', eliciting a nod from the Arche Fey.

"We are prepared to offer you things within our reach, but first we must hear what obstacles you face."
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
"Yeah man law of Cailleach, you know the drill," Izzy frantically searches for the brandy mentioned, muttering vehemently to herself as she collects glasses with a mage hand. Finally she crows (ha) with triumph as she locates a dusty bottle far, far back on the up most shelf, only accessible from the tippy top of the bar. She bounces down to her feet, glasses floating behind her as she clutches the bottle. "If you're talkin' obstacles, we got no idea how to get to where Daemin is. I don't think the asshat that took 'em is just gonna let us get there, you feel me, Your Grace My Mans?"
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/18/2020
Vhalias looks sidelong at Izzy, sighing in relief as they see that Izzy has found the brandy Corvus is talking about. They wait for Corvus to choose between the two armchairs and take the other, crossing their legs. They point a finger in Izzy's direction in affirmative. "That's our main problem. We need the means to get to Alaneon. An in. For as much as our people have been researching the realm of the Fair Folk, we have yet to secure any real leads on how to actually locate Alaneon."
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/18/2020
Es quietly goes over to the bar and gets two glasses of water. She offers one to Val and goes back to stand behind Vhalias' chair, sipping on the other.
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/18/2020
jinora nods affirmatively when Vahl talks about the points of what we need... she still looks around intently watching Corvus's mannerisms & the way he speaks.. shes still just floating but she'll eventually just sit in the air as she hangs & listens trying to ascertain situation... shell use a mage hand to bring another drink from the bar sipping & listening intently.
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
Corvus ponders this for a moment. "We believe we might have a solution to this problem of yours." He tilts his head back and forth. Val accepts the glass of water with a quiet 'thank you' to Es. Corvus lets out a low 'hmm', thinking on the subject and how best to word it.

"As a favor to the young Witch King, we will not ask for a price exorbitant." He begins. "But there will be cost. And we will have expectations placed upon you and those that go with." The Arche Fey tilts his head in a birdlike manner at Vhalias. "First. Each individual we assist must pay their way. That is, any who go with you to rescue your beloved must pay my price. Each price will be unique. Is this acceptable?"
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
Izzy pours the glasses of brandy with her mage hand and hands them out to the participants. Seeing how big Corvus and his hands are she just.... hands them the bottle. When he mentions prices she makes an 'ah' noise; there it is. "That depends on what you're askin' Your Graceliness." She gives a little grin. "I'd love to know what you value."
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/18/2020
Vhalias uncrosses their legs and leans forward, elbows on knees. "Of course. I'd like to hear what level of significance you'll be quoting us at." They lift a hand, offering Izzy a smirk. "Izzy, you tall wonder, could you grab me some stormwhiskey, neat? The whole bottle, or a glass, whatever works better for you."
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/18/2020
Jinora will nod understandingly as a large sly grin will crawl across her face as she tries to hide it behind her cup "I would love a pour of that as well?" she turns back to listen to the possible cost... that word still ringing in her head from the ealier conversation with Val
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
"It will depend. On who you elect to send." Corvus answers simply. He takes the bottle from Izzy, holding it between two spindly fingers at the base of the bottle. "As for what we value... It will be nothing of great cost. We enjoy seeing how people such as yourselves handle the curves life throws. We will respect the wishes of those that go on this journey, with regards to memories, limbs, time, and people in their lives. Things of these natures will be safe. You may find our prices rather... random. But they will be interesting nonetheless." Corvus examines the bottle for a moment. His other hand lifts and a small orb of the brandy lifts clear from the rest of the drink and slowly floats out of the bottle. He eyes it for a moment, before the bone beak on his face opens, revealing that every inch of the inside is covered in teeth. Not a mask. His face. The orb of brandy floats in and Corvus closes his beak on the drink, swallowing politely.

Val watches impassively, used to this. Tethra chirps on Val's shoulder, clearly wanting to drink from the 'fancy glass'.

"Second. We will require a modicum of discretion, making such a bold move in the game. You are not to cause a bloodbath while attached to our name. We assume this point is more straightforward than the previous one, yes?"
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
Izzy hums thoughtfully at the vague wording, but is quickly distracted by the mask THATS NOT A MASK OH TEN.

She watches raptly as the orb of brandy goes into the King's extraordinarily toothed maw. The teifling makes a quiet 'HM' noise to herself and nods absently. "Aight aight aight coo cool cool okay. Yeah discretion I can do. No bloodbaths. A little light stabbing?" She raises her hands, entreating as she backs up to the bar to get Vhalias a bottle of stormwhiskey.
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/18/2020
Vhalias steeples their fingers. "I'm curious, Your Grace— I will let you know up front that I intend to go myself. So, for an example: what would you ask of me?"

They sigh, nodding. "I've realized that such a move against Alaneon on our part would bring the Court down on our heads. For my own reasons, I cannot allow that." They reach for a drink when provided, taking a sip. "Separate from this excursion, however, know that if I can lend my services to ending that rat bastard in the much-less-precarious future... I wouldn't charge, I'll put it that way."

Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/18/2020
jinora's grin widens seeing the mask turn into rows of teeth in a interesting display ...hearing the thoughts & offer from Vhal calmly slid on the table.. shell spin her glass holding it on her finger as she ask "no unnecessary violence of course .... but Im interested in what you value my lord... I would like to assist as I can towards helping return the tavern master. I’d be willing to pay a cost of course depending on the circumstances of our arrangement since it sounds like it will be on an.. individual basis."

Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
"Some bloodshed we can tolerate. Some. Such acts are likely inevitable in your pursuits. We will not be displeased with violence within reason." Corvus nurses the brandy once more. He takes each of the speakers in turn, looking at them as they speak. "Ah. You wish for specifics from us. In exchange for our aid in delivering you the means to rescue your archfey..."

Corvus gently clicks his beak/mask open and closed in thought. Red light eyes staring through the one sitting across from him. The birds on the window seem to grow anxious, cawing gently and fluttering their wings, waiting for the king to speak. Finally, he responds.

"Velvetine. We will come for your first child on the eleventh anniversary of their birth. You will see them only once more, at the close. This is our price of you."
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
Izzy leans herself against the mantle, arms folded over her chest with a crooked grin as she listens. As The Crow King makes his ultimatum Izzy freezes. She opens and closes her mouth and hisses through her teeth, looking at Vhalias.
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/18/2020
Es looks over at Vhalias with curiosity. That....seemed a steeper price than she had figured, but...maybe it wouldn't be? She begins to worry about what might be asked of her...
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/18/2020
jinora continues to smiles quaintly to herself at the mention of ‘some’ violence may be necessary.. it’s been a while since she’s had a good reason to fight...

during the pause shell take another long sip as the crow king pauses... then when he speaks she listens intently with a smile she’s no stranger to deals as such, but hearing the demand her little smile fades into a very serious face as this deal intensifies much more quickly than she expected... she looks to vhal through the side of her eye looking to see how she’ll respond.
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/18/2020
Vhalias nods. “Of course. Some of my skills require a certain degree of violence, granted, but for all my anger toward Alaneon, I am not a beast.”

Vhalias sits back in their chair, watching carefully. There’s a unease that settles into Vhalias as Corvus seemingly peers into their soul, a Seeing, Knowing fog that seems to reach every nook and cranny of their mind. Even though they assume Corvus can “smell their fear”, they work to maintain their neutral expression.

And then it is gone. His Grace speaks.

“I—“ Their face twists as they exhale once more, a cold, bemused smirk turning up the corner of their mouth. They begin to snicker.

“Oh, Crow King, you do love jokes, don’t you.”

”Their firstborn child? What kind of morbid fairytale is this?

Their chuckling continues. “Bold of you to assume you’ll be paid on it anytime soon, perhaps even centuries. I have no children, nor do I plan on having any. The less progeny of my vile family, the better.”

They sit forward once again. “Perhaps one day, though... when my work is done, when all my ambition and desire for revenge has shriveled up and died, when the sins of the unworthy have been baptized in blood and fear... we will meet again.”

They offer the Crow King their hand to shake.
Vensis(Fae):Illari/Al/Barns/Tik — 09/18/2020
Afhiri sits and listens raising a brow at the request. First born? Watching Vhalias closely as they agree to the terms. This was her first experience with fey and they were odd to start. She leaned carefully back on the bar and continued to watch.
Jerald(H/H) Ur/Rol/Psalm/Eimsury — 09/18/2020
Ursu watches. The style of deal seemed almost story book, but that did not surprise him of what he heard of the fey. His eyes widen at the mentioning of the offering of the first born, but at Vhalias' response he stroked his goatee. Would a lack of child be failure to pay? He remained quiet as he sat and watched.
Kaylee Ukes — 09/18/2020
Eider took in the conversation around him, despite his insistence against doing so. He kept a careful ear on the Crow King's words, listening out for any sneaky sentences, or hidden conditions. It was harder than he thought it would be, forcing him to stay quiet for fear he'd miss something. Letting Jinora, Izzy and Vhalias talk seemed like the best thing to do, especially because he was so far out of his depth, he could feel himself be overwhelmed.

Though it wasn't the case, the watching eyes of the corvids that scrutinized seemed to stare only at him in this brief moment,  before he took a breath to calm himself. He couldn't let himself be distracted, and so he shut his eyes and simply listened, wolf ears twitching, before perking forward to attention.
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
Corvus lifts a large hand, tightly shaking Vhalias'. "We have an accord, Velvetine." He clicks his beak in approval. "In exchange for this payment, we offer an invitation to throw a party for the archfey known as Alaneon in our name. Our word is our bond, and so the party you take must uphold this portion of the agreement. The party must be thrown, or we will be extremely cross." Corvus let the thinly veiled threat hang. It was best not to upset a lord of the fair folk. Pulling his hand back, Corvus looks at the others assembled.

"This is what your price will purchase. An invitation to Alaneon's realm to craft a celebration for the abductor in our name. The party will be thrown. We will not take you to the realm in question, nor will we take you from it. Those questions are for you to answer." He chirps in his throat, tilting his head back and forth, still looking about the room. **"He will not refuse our offer. He will understand our use of surrogates, as the Sea will prevent our moving about freely.
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
Izzy watches with a grimace as the two shake hands. Vhalias accepted readily and easily, but something didn't sit quite right with Izzy. Something being forgotten, maybe. Or overlooked. Regardless, the deal was struck, and she looks to the Lord with a rakish grin. "So, does that mean we all gotta make a deal with you for an invite, Your Corvidship?"
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/18/2020
Es looks up. What could she possibly have to offer someone like this? And the question of getting there is still hanging in the air. To throw a party...that's not in her skillset either. But she is to go. Oberon asked her to. She nods in response to Izzy's statement, indicating her willingness to listen to deals as well.
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/18/2020
as she continues to float listening... admiring the tenacity & cander of Vhal’s response she will lean back almost like putting the weight of her hands on an invisible table she’s sitting on as she watches the hand shake.. that takes guts...

she’ll start to ponder the questions she has for the fair folk’s statement & limitations before thinking of what she has to offer... time...she has a lot of that. As she waits for his response curiously to izzy’s question.. wishing the alcohol were affecting her.. but it dosent & might not again... releasing a depressed quiet sigh
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/18/2020
Vhalias shakes hands with Corvus, and nods at his terms, taking another sip of their stormwhiskey. Their throat felt... oddly dry for a moment. How strange. "Naturally we will follow through on the invitation to the very best of our abilities, Your Grace. Are we to be responsible for the resources and expenses of this event? Would you be so magnanimous as to offer any insight on what is expected at a party of the Fair Folk?"
Vensis(Fae):Illari/Al/Barns/Tik — 09/18/2020
Afhiri shifted in her seat, paying close mind to the proceedings. What would a party for Fey entail? With the showiness of the being speaking she could only expect something of high statement. Looking to Ursu and Eider she tilted her head to the side.

"Do either of you know what a fair folk party might be like? Or really any party...where I come form they aren't indulged in. I'm curious..." She spoke softly as he leaned toward them. Her eye drew to Vhalias while she waited for a reply from either man. The individual that was speaking so surely to this fey was piquing her interest. The conversation they would have was going to need much tact. Looking back to the men hoping either had an answer.
Jerald(H/H) Ur/Rol/Psalm/Eimsury — 09/18/2020
Ursu watched as the handshake took place, the words and their specificity had him a bit on edge, but he gave no sign of his discomfort, choosing to remain respectful as possible. However, Izzy's question did bring up an...interesting possibility. Did they all have to? If so, what would be asked of each of them. What if there was something Ursu... could not part with? His tattoo glowed faintly and he was quick to cover it before turning to Afhiri.

"I wouldn't have much of an idea of what fair folk would call a party, but in my land, having experienced the celebrations of Nobles and that of the loud and drunken soldier, I would maybe hesitate to guess closer to the former. Something with taste, maybe a bit of regality? I can't be sure though." Ursu shrugs, waiting to see how things were to continue.
Kaylee Ukes — 09/18/2020
Eider paled at the mention of a fey party, ears twitching. He had heard tales from Rem years ago about the parties they would attend at the Summer Court. How he would work as his mother, The Seelie Queen's, representative when in the presence of other Archfey for the first half of the party before indulging in the delights himself. How if everything wasn't perfect for the attending Archfey, curses would be placed and the party planners would be executed. He recalled with slight horror at Rem excitedly telling him about the line of executions because the temperature was 3° cooler than what his mother like.

"...Usually... crazy, sex-filled and frivolous. They're a wild time........ Only know from... stories being told to me though." Eider cleared his throat softly, looking away from Afhiri and Ursu, before looking back. "But.... A party... with Archfey in attendance? It's... completely different." Eider replied, voice hushed, head bowed.  "If... we're the ones hosting it in Alaneon's Realm, then... the party will have to be perfectly up to their standards. If not, rescuing Daemin will be... probably impossible."

If Alaneon knew Daemin's true name as Jinora has said a while back, all of this was most likely fruitless anyways. Once an archfey had your true name, that was... pretty much game over.
Dani/Leafa (She/Her) — 09/18/2020
Coming quietly down the stairs from the lounge was Leafa, who seemed very hesitant and tense as she entered the room. Immediately her eyes widened as she looked up at the tall figure that was Corvus, though she quickly looked away as to not be rude. What is with fey and being so tall. Dang. Or maybe she was just short. Either way as the group seemed to be discussing something she took the time to shuffle over and stand at attention beside Es almost like a body guard...except with no weapon. But hey she's buff. She takes sure to wave to everyone before facing The Crow King

"Apologies for my late arrival...there were some personal matters I had to take care of upstairs" Yeah, like being angsty. Still, she took the time to bow as she spoke. Her voice having this very collected and soft tone to it, which was really unusual for Leafa. She then straightened up again and remained silent. Though occasionally wincing and clenching her teeth...most likely surpressing a hiccup or belch. Yep, still half-drunk
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/18/2020
Corvus tilts his head back and forth, considering the question. "Why, yes. We will ask a price of each you wish to take into attendance." He turns his attention back to 'Velvetine'. "We do believe ones as resourceful as yourselves will be able to procure the materials necessary to throw this party. As far as what the boor will be expecting, we recommend a great deal of food. Perhaps your favorite dishes- and we would advise they are of a high quality. We do not wish to see you fed to Alaneon's beastly servants, staff, and showpieces."

A single red-light eye swivels in the socket to examine Leafa. "Oh yes, personal business. We arrived rather suddenly. We did not expect all others to drop all business on our account, no, no, no. We are pompous- but not arrogant. We understand completely, Newcomer."

"Is there any in attendance who wishes to hear our price laid out for them? Or do you wish to take a moment and decide who will attend the...." Corvus clicks his beak, a hollow, bird-like chuckle echoing from his throat. "Rescue party, pardon the pun."

Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/18/2020
Izzy cackles softly at the pun, mulling over the option. Fey deals; bad news, she knew His Crowyal Highness would deliver on the promise, but what was she willing to give up?

"I'll bite," Izzy pipes up. "I feel like I need to go and see this through. You're my ticket in. What's your price?" She glances around the tavern to see if anyone else is stupid brave enough to join her.
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/18/2020
Es swallows hard. Her hand find's Leafa's and takes it in a death grip. "Your Grace," she says softly, trying to keep her voice under control, "you may refer to me as the Daughter of Jaelle. I, too, wish to go on this....party." Her lips twitch into a smile "So I, too, crave to know what might be asked of me." She takes a breath "And to be clear on what I am agreeing to, because my mentor will quiz me on this stringently, we are giving a party for Alaneon in your name, but we are responsible for our entrance and exit to the Feywilds, and of course for the physical rescue of our friend. You are providing us with the excuse to get into where we need to. Correct?" She's shaking by the end of this. "My pardon if I speak too much. My education in certain matters was...lacking."
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/19/2020
jinora nods a bit excitedly raising a curious eyebrow hearing there might be a price already weighed for her... I could maybe make drinks.. that could be fun... as things are progressing as the tension is lessened due to the wonderful pun.. shell chuckle to herself as she listens raising her hand still in a laid back posture

"I'd love to attend if I may... & thank you, your wonderfulness for that good pun.. its always wonderful to laugh on nights such as these..." shell sit up a bit as she adjust her glasses & moves the hair out of her face a little putting it behind her ear... she'll fiddle to pull out one of her gauges in her ears as she does so to fiddle with it in her hand letting it flip between her fingers like a magician with a coin as she speaks letting it appear & disappear as she does so

"but if I could take a second of your time your lordliness... id love to ask for something in addition if you'd hear my humble request... id be willing to pay a price worthy of such a request of course...  but as I am a mage who specializes in time magic... one thing that has been lingering in my mind is the variable of the time flux in your fair realm, is there any way I could possibly gleen a way to well.. " stops flicking the gauge holding it still placing it atop her thumb

"...Lessen the effects of such a variable for our party's passage? Learning such knowledge is something I personally am very interested in......... but an agreement for a timely...

Vhalias swirls the remaining stormwhiskey in their glass, leaning back to cross their legs again. "Of course, Your Corvid Eminence. I only ask for the sake of transparency, that we may plan our operation all the more accurately. In my own work, I demand the highest attention to detail and can afford no margin of error. I greatly appreciate all the information you have given us thus far."

Following Corvus' gaze, they glance at the others gathered, noting that Afhiri was still there with slightly narrowed eyes. Certainly, if she wants the information she's seeking, she can spare the patience to wait until Daemin is home safe to get it.

"I do not know that our meeting includes the... exhaustive list of those who wish to join our... rescue party." They do chuckle, appreciating Corvus' joke. "There is at least one other that I hope to recruit for this endeavor, depending on their agreement to your price. I respect your time, however, and you must be a very busy entity. How may we contact you for additional arrangements?"

They blink at Jinora's request. Time magic? She had helped them with the glyph from Daemin's desk, clearly out of Vhalias' depth, but they hadn't guessed that she was capable of such things. She watched her curiously as she entreated the Crow King, employing a swagger of her own. An interesting woman, indeed.
Vensis(Fae):Illari/Al/Barns/Tik — 09/19/2020
Afhiri considered the information that Ursu and Eider gave her. Seeing neither really describe what a party entailed, but that was fine. There was much happening within the tavern, but they did say the party that they would have to present would be extravagant.

"I don't quite understand...but I think I can piece together what a party is." Did she wish to join the rescue party into the Feywilds? Perhaps she needed more information, many good questions had been asked. Waiting for the answers seemed prudent.
Jerald(H/H) Ur/Rol/Psalm/Eimsury — 09/19/2020
Ursu gave Eider a curious glance and opens his mouth to say something, but as it was made clear that it was time to agree to hearing out offers he turned his attention to Corvus. He rises up from his seat with respect to the guest. "Your grace, I am one of those in present company who are interested in participating. If you need a title to refer to me by, you may call me ...General Baks," Ursu clears his throat as he puts his hands behind his back, "I am willing to hear out whatever price you are willing to offer."
Kaylee Ukes — 09/19/2020
Eider paused for a moment. A fey party. Hosting a party in domain of an Archfey. If it wasn't perfect, and they did something out of line, there was no guarantee they would leave alive. That said, Eider stood, bowing deeply to the Arche Fey.

"Lord of Crows, Apologies for not introducing myself sooner, I... offer you the name Lup to refer to me as. It is a pleasure to meet you and your entourage on this date. I would like to hear the price as well, provided I can refuse the offer if it does not suffice without drawing your ire." Eider replied, his voice deep, but songlike as he spoke, ensuring he did not meet Corvus' eyes as he spoke out of respect for the entity before him.
Dani/Leafa (She/Her) — 09/19/2020
A quiet exhale of relief escaped from Leafa at the response she got from Corvus. Thank god. A lot of her fears were relieved from those few simple sentences.

Leafa made sure to hold very tightly onto Es's hand as she reached out for it, giving her a small glance and nod to hopefully re-assure her. As she listens to the others as well she slowly begins picking up on context clues as to what the topic may be. A party? People are giving minor introduction still. There's some sort of price...so maybe they already made some deal and everyone is paying individually to be able to enter?

She seemed to perk up a bit at the request Jinora presented. If she wasn't trying to keep her emotions down a wave of admiration would've washed over her face plain for everyone to see. To speak to a fey like that with such confidence almost made her feel confident somehow. Man. She's so cool. She then seemed to clue into the tone Izzy had as well, one so relaxed and casual in her speech. She really could learn from everyone here...they're awesome..

But then as Eider finished his words, she realized she would need to present herself soon as someone also attending. She didn't care much for whatever the price was, as long as she could help, it would be okay "Well..." She spoke up, keeping the same smooth and collected tone as before "Apologies as well for not stating my name beforehand Lord of Crows, if you would prefer a name to refer to me as other than newcomer then I would like to introduce myself as La'Vey, Scholar of Bract and Leader of Kerna if titles are something you would prefer. I too am to be joining said rescue party and would gladly-" She suddenly has to stifle a very large belch. Oh god please hold it in. She does for the most part, though the smallest sound seems to rumble from her throat before she continues "Ahem....s-sorry...uhm-I would be open to hearing said price at this time"
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/19/2020
Corvus clicks his beak, rising to his... feet? Did he have them? Who's to say.

He glides around the room, examining each who stated their intent to go along, before moving to the next. No answer was given. He turns to face 'Velvetine' once more, speaking casually. "We may make ourselves available for a time. If your Masters will not permit our stay within this Nexus, the young Witch King may reach us easily. But you must be swift, for our patience is not infinite- make your party known to us soon, or forever forfeit your chance."

He continues his tour around the room, stopping at Eider. He stoops low, a lone red eye looking directly into Eider's, forcing the direct eye contact. "It seems to us, Lup. That you want your cake and to eat it as well. Is your heart not in this venture? Would you not pay any price to rescue your keeper of the tavern?" He stands up straight and turns, examining each person in turn once more.

"Izzy." He quickly turns to face her. "My price for you is thus: You will have no taste for any love that is not true." He pauses a moment, then nods as if in satisfaction. He quickly swings to look at 'General Baks'. "General Baks. My price for you is..." He peers deep into the other person, thinking for a moment. "You will lose all knowledge of the number 'eleven'. Yes, that will do nicely."

He turns yet again, tapping his cane on the floor, going to face 'Mothed Mage'. "For your invitation... We would have every bird in your memory stand out in vivid color. For your knowledge..." Corvus trails off before snapping his beak open and shut in a clicking laugh. "The light of the moon shall reveal your truest nature." From here he looks at 'the Daughter of Jaelle'. "And you, Quiet One. By your actions, a mighty kingdom shall rise and flourish for eleven years. Then, on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, of that eleventh year, by your actions, it will crumble."
Corvus turns to 'La'Vey'. "And from you, newcomer..." He clicks his beak in thought. "From you, we would have your heroic deeds go uncelebrated and unnoticed in your own world. Fear not, for they will make for famous theater in other worlds, stories told by playwright after playwright- the tales given to them by the muses."
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/19/2020
Izzy's cocksure grin fades into an uncharacteristically naked look of bewilderment. She opens her mouth-- and then closes it, suddenly not finding the words. She hugs herself, rubbing her arms as if for warmth. "Huh." She says after a moment with a grimace. "That kinda hit home." Honestly, she didn't know what she'd been expecting. She lowers her head. The risk of this seemed... high. After a few moments, she lifts her head with a wry smirk. "So. You got any detail on how you define 'true love', O' Count of Carrion?" She tries to keep up the nonplussed demeanor, but its clear Izzy is a little shaken.
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/19/2020
As Corvus finishes giving her his price for her, a voice in the back of her head seems to screech in rage for just an instant. Outwardly, she blinks, forcing herself to keep her face neutral, but now she wonders... "Your price sounds....less of a price and more of a prophecy. But I find it an acceptable price. I agree." She hesitates, then lets Leafa's hand go and extends it. "Is this how we seal the deal?" she asks uncertainly
Lion(Fae):Kalamä|Röe|Jin|Rid|Bow — 09/19/2020
jinora flips & catches the coin one last time as she listens in excitement... I mean birds are cute... thats ok right?! Seems a small price to pay... hearing her true nature will be revealed in the moon light... the 'light of Sehanine'... she began flipping the coin but as those words set in her mind.. she freezes absolultey freezes all for just a second.. the coin floats & is held mid air... almost like a picture was taken... as a bone shaking shiver runs down her form shaking to her core as her eyes go wide almost like she's stuck in time looking Corvus in the eye floating..

deep down this is her absolute greatest fear... rather she conciously acknowledges that or not & for the calm demeanor she carried earlier she cracked like a porcelaine mask for a split second as the panic that has flooded in her head... rather it be simply having her true form revealed in the moon, or having her heart weighed it was still a thing she feared

after that split second like thunder after lightning a charasmatic energy exudes from her as she pushes that absolute terror down for later.. a terrible move for her... shell catch the coin in mid air as she floats to meet Corvus & puts her hand out... "Sounds like a Fair deal your lordship, It is a pleasure doing business with you" with a very large smile as she holds out her hand to shake his hand tilting her head ever so slightly.

Vhalias nods and tosses back the rest of their stormwhiskey, rising to their feet as well. “Then I’ll assemble the rest of us who will go within the next few days and contact your retainer. I can’t speak for the Masters, but I’m afraid I also don’t see them agreeing to your staying here. I’ll be sure we take up little of your time.” They slowly follow after Corvus, dovetailing to land at the bar. They look up at Izzy, gesturing to her quietly for the bottle of stormwhiskey.
Vensis(Fae):Illari/Al/Barns/Tik — 09/19/2020
Afhiri watched the tall creature move through the room giving each who has volunteers their price. Each price seemed like it had been plucked from the air on the wings of mirth, the flock unseen to all in company. She glanced around at all assemble, lingering on Vhalias for a moment as she stood from seat. An opportunity had presented itself.

"My Lord I would like to commit my help to the cause. You may call me Zephyr. I would like to hear the price you place on me." She bowed low with reverence as she straightened and waited her hands clasped before her.
Jerald(H/H) Ur/Rol/Psalm/Eimsury — 09/19/2020
The number 11? All knowledge of it? Ursu repressed a sneer. He had no interest in beings messing with his mind. Enough had been done to it over the years that he was finally starting to shake it off, he was starting to find who he was in the mess, and knew not what small alterations might do, but he looked over at Izzy with a sympathetic look. His was a small price in comparison to others.

No matter how much he had learned through his life, no matter how much he treasured his knowledge, this was a good reminder that to protect others, he had to accept that things were bigger than him. What was a number compared to the presence of a friend. He peered around the room at some of those with heavier prices. The falling of kingdoms? A lack of acknowledgement for deeds done? Ursu shakes his head and sighs. He would put aside own misgivings of the idea over something simple like the number 11 and reached out his hand.

"For what must be done, this is a fair price."
Kaylee Ukes — 09/19/2020
As Corvus stooped low, engaging eye contact, Eider returned it with a careful gaze of his own, wolf ears tilted back as he smiled softly like he would to anyone else. He bowed his head in address, before speaking.

"You may think what you'd like about me, Father of the Flock. I wouldn't waste your precious time with my presence if my 'heart wasn't in this venture.'" The half-wolf reassured. Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fu-- "I don't believe there's anything wrong with not wanting to upset you, but if there is, please correct me. The offer to pay you any price would be a dangerous thing, though. I... would prefer to pay a fair price for my invitation, as you have offered my fellow patrons."

He glanced out towards his fellow patrons, noticing most of them agreeing to their deals. Eider frowned to himself, There was something that wouldn't settle in his chest.
"Oh, one thing I would like to ask, do we have any... reassurance once we retrieve Daemin... that they will stay with us in the Tavern, and not be taken by Alaneon again?" Eider questioned, curious. He looked over to his fellow Patrons as well, looking for an answer. He didn't think anyone had thought of that yet, but in fairness it had only just come to Eider himself. "That is my one worry."
Dani/Leafa (She/Her) — 09/19/2020
Leafa grows more and more nervous as everyone prices are listed. Then it gets to her. First she pouts mentally as she's still referred to as newcomer...she practiced for so long on saying that name and title...dang it. But then her price is laid out in front of her. And there was a pause. Then a small smile and quiet exhale.

Before responding she glances to Izzy and Jinora, noting their shaken demeanor, though Jinora's was momentarily. She takes the time to walk over beside Izzy and offer her hand for support and also giving a small nod to Jinora as a way to say they can talk later, before looking back to Corvus

"I will happily accept this deal as it's been presented to me. Thank you for your generosity."  She bows again, offering a hand to shake if he accepts it

Though she's smiling still, there's an obvious pain in her eyes. To have all she'd done uncelebrated...would that mean even her friends...her mom-would they forget all she tried to do too? Would it just be to a general public? It's not like many knew her as a hero in the first place. If anything this is an upgrade isn't it? To have her story of inevitable sacrifice be spread to every other plane of existence. God would she really have to be another tragedy story? Oh well. Thinking further on it her eyes seem to show more and more sadness if one would do focus on her. To imagine hundreds and thousands of readers and theater-goers to see her constant failures only for to die in the end. Her anxiety is slowly getting the better of her but she does her best to hide that fact.
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/19/2020
Corvus shakes each hand in turn as they are offered, sealing the deals as they are accepted. Then on to the others. First, the next two deals.

"Zephyr, then." He clicks his beak, examining closely. "When you next return home..." He ponders for a moment. "You will find an object you did not know you had. Leave it beneath the nearest tree. We will come claim it, come the next moonrise." He nods in satisfaction.

"Fine, fine, O Eater of Cake." Corvus waves a hand at Eider. "Your price will be..." He clicks his beak again, the teeth flashing in the firelight. "While in a public place, you must wear a shirt of some kind. Yes, that suits us nicely. As for your other question... that is between yourselves, Daemin, and Alaneon, is it not?"

"And as for you, Miss Izzy." Corvus wheels around to face Izzy once more. "We can no more define 'true love' than you can. Truly, it is a subjective emotion. Only you will know what you have lost for this." He turns to look at the others assembled.

"Each price is not capricious whim- though by mortal standards it may as well be. Consider well what each of you will give for this boon we grant. Consider what doors will close, and which will open, as a result. The Crow Price is what it is for its own reasons."
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/19/2020
"Neeehhhh..." Is the dissatisfied noise Izzy makes when Corvus turns his attention back to her, clearly disgruntled. Though a couple of the other prices did make her snicker a little. She blinks down with quizzical gratitude at Leafa as she approaches, hand held out-- but pushes off from the mantle, hands off the bottle to Vhalias, and paces behind the group, brow furrowed in thought. That went a whole lot deeper than just her relationship with Gorlyl. Love had many forms, after all. She thinks about Sene and Ofeilia and....

Grumbling, she rakes a hand through her hair-- snagged, again, ow-- and prys her fingers from the curly locks. There was a time when she was willing to die for the Tavern. When she'd had to save Craig from himself, and Oriana from dying. Staying up late with Hassan at the window to stand vigil as the Nexus shook apart. Now it was Daemin's turn, so it seemed. Izzy heaves a long sigh and approached Corvus, holding out her hand.

"You got an accord. Lets see where this goes." When his hand approaches hers, instead of shaking, she leads him through a complicated series of high fives, fist bumps, and finger wiggles, ending on a pair of finger guns.
Shayra {Es/Maisie/Norria} (S/H) — 09/19/2020
Es sighs in relief and turns to Vhalias "Velvetine, I know of two people who indicated interest in helping. One is a kenku, from what I heard said in the Library, they were also researching with an eye to helping. They are the sneaky type, I have seen them in the Tavern before. The other is a friend of...of the Lady of the Garden. She is a cleric and a healer, and I feel we should have someone like that. I can seek them out and send them to speak with you." She looks around at everyone "All who are going...the Master of Knowledge has been correlating all the research done to speed this trip. I highly suggest every one of you stop and visit at your earliest convenience to see the results of the research." She turns to Corvus and summons up what she hopes is a winning smile "Many apologies, but I must now depart. My mentor wants to know how I fared. May we meet again someday under better circumstances."  Was that right to say? She isn't sure but...oh well..She bows and backs towards the door.

jinora still stuck in her head as she listens floats back down to hover between the fire & Vhal she sees the quick look from Leafa, but averts her eyes quickly to try to hide whats really happening as she keeps up the somewhat sideways grin.. her eyes look towards the tavern window to see if there is any moon light & takes a relief as there isnt much that she sees at the moment..  she laughs a little & nods in appreciation at Eider's response & cost as she has a hard time not finding it a little funny, as she's thankful for the distraction... then finding a needed genuine laugh watching Izzy do an amazing hand shake & finger guns with Corvus it really takes some bravery or spunk or something to finger guns with a being like this she thinks to herself

taking a second to listen to Es's response & nodding in aggreance, now back in her laid back posture she still plays with the gauge then putting it back in her ear before asking
"Not to rush the night at all, as I’m someone who likes to enjoy the moment with such things... I quite enjoy your company your graciousness, but as I want to be respectful of you time of course... for the knowledge on how to prepare for the time warp, how would I go about acquiring such?" she ask that still in a enthusiastically & intrigued tone but the posture she takes after saying that seems one of someone very tired as she concentrates on keeping it together

Vhalias blinks, turning to Es. "The Sneak? Did they really? I was hoping to approach them anyway. I want to see what they're like in a fight, whether or not we end up in one." They watch everyone shake hands with Corvus, nodding as they count. Five people already. It was encouraging to see people's resolve, but they had to be careful that their numbers didn't grow too much higher.

They refill their glass, sipping at the stormwhiskey as they watch the remainder of the proceedings.

Vensis(Fae):Illari/Al/Barns/Tik — 09/19/2020
"I can agree to that price." Afhiri extended her hand to shake on the deal. Whatever this object was she did bother her, The Crow King would retrieve and that was that. Once the hand shake was done she sat back down to continue to be an ear to the current events. There were many good questions being given and answers that follow. It seemed best that she absorb as much as possible and perhaps stop by the library sometime soon.

Eider tensed in reply at Corvus' offer. He wanted to quickly jump in and agree, to help with the party and saving Daemin regardless of the cost, but, the more he thought on the deal offered to him, the deeper he frowned. The fact that it went against everything he had worked towards with himself bothered him immensely. He had promised himself he would never hide his body under layers of clothes again. Not after years of despising himself for being overweight. To be forced to hide himself again; at the behest of an Arche Fey no less, would be a betrayal to everything he worked towards with himself. He understood the weight of this deal as well, what was at stake and couldn't help but feel selfish, but his mind was already made up.

"Un...fortunately, that is not a deal I can take for personal reasons, and so I refuse." Eider replied, his voice strained, almost conflicted as he bowed his head to the Lord of Crows. It would surely seem ridiculous to his fellow patrons that such a small, almost comical deal was denied. He could only hope they wouldn't judge him too harshly for his refusal. "My heart is still in this endeavor, and I will help out in any other way I can. I just..." A heavy sigh, Eider's more professional persona faltered. "If it were... any other deal, I would accept without hesitation."

He looked over to his fellow patrons; those who had sacrificed to make their deals where he had struggled and refused. He made sure to not meet anyone's eyes as he bowed his head. "Many apologies, to all of you, and to Daemin. I wouldn't blame anyone here for looking down on me." His act returned, bowing his head once more.

He looked up to Corvus, taking a much deeper bow. "Reagent of Ravents; I bid you farewell and a peaceful night. May you and your realm prosper." And with that, Eider headed up to his room, not looking back as the door to his room closed shut.
Dani/Leafa (She/Her) — 09/20/2020
Leafa seemed to be a bit busy in her own mind, though as she noticed Izzy not take her hand and Jinors avert their gaze, she takes a second to cover her mouth with a hand and keep her eyes to the ground. Almost as if she was thinking, but really she herself was trying to keep it together. Though she does exhale out a silent laugh seeing Izzy do a full complex hand "shake".

As Eider declines she looks to him, more out of worry than anything. If anything she understood...almost completely, especially at hearing it was personal. Either way she couldn't really process any resentment right now. She goes to say something as he heads up to his room but stops herself, realizing she probably didn't have the right words right now either. She simply moved back a bit to stand against the wall and keep her eyes down, just listening to the rest of the conversation
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/20/2020
Corvus shakes hands with the others who accepted his bargain (mirroring Izzy's complex gesture rather accurately). He watches 'Lup' leave and clicks his beak. "We hope your prices paid do not vex you terribly. We hope you find them as interesting as we find them. But it is interesting to see what people will or won't give in pursuit of the things and people, that matter, is it not?"

He returns the bottle of brandy, after taking another orb of the drink into his beak, to Izzy. "We thank you for your hospitality. Should we need to negotiate more invitations, we can return. We will delay our notice to Alaneon until you are ready- the young Witch King can inform us at your leisure."

Corvus turns to Jinora. "And as for your other prize, Mothed Mage." He reaches an hand into the folds of his coat and retrieves something- a small book, and hands it to her. "We hope it is everything you desire to know."

The book's cover reads:
A Foolproof Guide to Traversing the Chronoscape
A pocket guide on the time differential between planes, as well as the magic and science thereof.

Adorning the inside cover reads: "To a seeker of knowledge. -The Crow King"
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/20/2020
Izzy YELLS with glee as Corvus does the complicated handshake. It almost takes the sting out of the agreement. She gives him an easy grin and shakes her head, pushing the bottle back into his hand. "Keep it, keep it, its yours. Consider it an offering." She bows again with a sweep, stepping back a few paces until she's out of the crowd and lets the smile fall.

seeing the Corvus turn back to her shell look back excitedly as to what is about to happen… seeing a book pop out she gets wide eyed as she hands it to him she looks at it like a kid on Christmas morning.. she’s been trying to learn about this since before she could even cast immovable object her first time spell (2nd level spells lol)

with stars in her eyes she starts looking through the book as she gets more & more excited the terror of the moment wishing away for just a second at this absolutely gem of knowledge… her brother would be proud

as she flips through she sees the note inside & absolutely just starts crying.. with tears of joy coming down her face shell almost breathlessly say “This is is is everything… I ..I .. THANK YOU SO MUCH LORD OF THE BIRBSss” she starts losing her formality & words as she floats up to hug the kind of crows with the warmest & kindest hug she can muster
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/20/2020
Vhalias nearly spit takes when Jinora hugs Corvus. The more they observe her, the stranger and more intriguing she becomes.

Vhalias trails around the room after Corvus, eyeing Afhiri suspiciously as they pass. What game are they playing?

“This is most of our group, Your Ravenous Regency. It will not take long to gather the rest, I assure you.”

Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/21/2020
Corvus nods, placing the bottle of brandy within his coat. "Very well-" Corvus looks down as 'Mothed Mage' gives him a hug. Despite the bone structure forming his face, he seems to be surprised at the sudden contact. Then it... softens? If only a bit. He looks unsure for a moment, then pats her on the back. "You... are welcome."

He straightens once more, though still remaining hunched over. "Negotiations, for now are concluded. I thank you for your hospitality, denizens of this Nexus. Should you have others you wish to add to the party, I will return at the young Witch King's behest." He nods again, gently prying 'Mothed Mage' from him. "Young Witch King, if you will make yourself available... I do know you so love your privacy, but would appreciate your cooperation in this matter."

Val's lips draw to a thin line. "Of course, your grace."

"Capital! Now, if you will escort me to the gates... I do believe some of the other residents are grating at my presence. Time to leave." Corvus glides towards the Tavern's door, Val escorting him. As they reach the door, the various corvids gathering on the windows and distant trees flap their wings, cawing a cacophony, before taking off and flying off, their Crow King taking his leave.

((Sorry for breaking turn order, just trying to move things along!)
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/23/2020
Val frowns, then nods. He turns to Tethra. "Tethra, I'd like to speak to His Grace again. And I apologize for bothering him so soon after last time. Inform him we request his presence in the Tavern once more, as quickly as he is able."

Tethra looks unsure, or as unsure as a bird can look before cawing. He flaps his wings once more, cawing loudly. Almost at once, there are dark birds on the windows of the tavern, staring inside, cawing and flapping their wings occasionally. The dark mass, occasionally peppered with the red eyes of a Vixian Hagcrow.
Corvus glides into the Tavern, not quite walking, same as last time. Still standing at his full height of around twelve feet, he examines the others- who Corvus assumed the young Witch King had called him here to bargain with. "We have arrived, at your request, young Witch King. We do so hope your Masters forgive the sudden intrusion. With any luck, we will not impose on their hospitality for too much longer."
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/23/2020
Vhalias nods in respect to Corvus. "As I was saying to the Witch King, Your Grace, I hardly think anyone's in a position to object." They gesture to Fish and Ella. "I have gathered the last of our rescue party." They take a step back so the two can introduce themselves. "Another drink for you, King of Crows?"
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/23/2020
Wren looks up, eyes widening slightly as she stares at the Crow King. She honestly didn't know what she was expecting but it wasn't this. She rises and curtseys with unusual precision before settling back down in the chair and letting the others make their deals.
Fish/Galv/Murzol (h/h) — 09/23/2020
Again, Fish nods. Having no knowledge of decorum or about the normalcies of social interactions a nod is all they muster, fingers idly thrumming against the counter top until addressed directly.
Shae(s/t):El/Marlow/Rin/Mae — 09/23/2020
There is a pause as Ella takes in the figure known as the Crow King, equal parts terrified and excited. She stands and gives a deep curtsey, the smile returning to her face again. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Your Grace. I can be referred to as Ella...thank you for agreeing to aid us in rescuing our beloved friend."
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/23/2020
Corvus looms over the others, examining them. "Greetings Ella. You may call us Corvus, Firstborn Son of the Elderkin, Favored Son of Mother Monster, the King of Crows, the Regent of Ravens, Father of the Flock, and Sir of the Sable Spire." He looks over the two, peering into them with his red lantern-light eyes. He briefly turns to examine Wren as she curtseys.

"We thank you Velvetine, but that is unnecessary." He reaches into the folds of his coat and withdraws the brandy from last time. Again he pulls an orb out of it with a motion of his hand, levitating it up and into his many-toothed beak. "We believe we have a price ready, if the Flockborn is willing to provide us a name to negotiate with." He looks down towards Fish again.
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/23/2020
Vhalias shrugs and gets a stormwhiskey from Rasi. When they come back, they pause in their drink to watch Corvus drink his brandy. They nudge Fish when they don't immediately respond. "I think His Grace means you, friend."
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/23/2020
Wren observes, sitting stalk still beside Val, in silence.
Fish/Galv/Murzol (h/h) — 09/23/2020
Fish looks a bit surprised having not heard their name. A head tilts over at the arche Fey. “Fish”
Shae(s/t):El/Marlow/Rin/Mae — 09/23/2020
Ella watches as Vhalias leaves to get a drink before turning back to- oh gods that's a lot of teeth why are there so many teeth. Doing her best not to appear rude she instead bows her head as she addresses Corvus. "It is an honor Corvus, Firstborn Son of the Elderkin, Favored...Son of Mother Monster, the King of Crows, the Regent of Ravens, Father of the Flock, and Sir of the Sable Spire." She recites the name he gave slowly and with some effort to remember it all then takes a short breath before continuing, "I believe there was mention of a price?"
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/23/2020
Corvus examines the two of them carefully, red lantern eyes peering through the mask-like face at each. "Fish and Ella." He begins. He looks sharply back to Ella as she returns the greeting. A beat passes. He lifts both hands off his cane, it standing stock still even without support, in a slow and deliberate motion. The bottle of brandy floats by his side.

A soft applause.

"Excellently done, Ella. Not many bother trying to remember the titles. We will have to bring more of them next time to put that memory to the test. Assuming there is a next time." He looks back to Velvetine. "Hopefully under different circumstances, of course." Corvus returns his attention to both of them, Tethra flying from the table to sit on the fey lord's shoulder, examining the newcomers as well.

"Ella. We request two letters of your name. You need not tell us your proper name, and the letters you give us are up to you. Given time, you may prove yourself to us... and thus earn your letters back." He fixes her with a stare. "For you will have need of these letters in your future. But to go without them for now... is your price."

Corvus turns to Fish next, looking at the kenku evenly. "And... Fish. Your price..." He thinks for a moment, peering at the rogue. "Is a task. We request... that you..." He ponders a few seconds more. "Brew us a poison that can kill the dead. Yes. This is your price."
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/23/2020
Vhalias leans back against the counter, shrugging somewhat at Corvus' words to them. "By my reckoning, you and I will not meet again for at least 200 years. But yes, different circumstances."

They raise an eyebrow at the prices the Crow King lays out for them. It only serves to drive home how strange their own price is. Perhaps after Ella and Fish leave, they can ask him about it. It's been bothering them since they first slept on what they'd agreed to.
Meg (S/H): [Del/Jewel/Wren/Ayli] — 09/23/2020
Wren continues to listen in silence, thin brows drifting up as she hears the prices laid out.
Fish/Galv/Murzol (h/h) — 09/23/2020
With how tense everyone seemed to be and the seriousness with which Vhalias warned them, Fish was a bit confused by the relatively simple request. If the bird could laugh, they would. They nod in agreement to the price. Easy enough.
Shae(s/t):El/Marlow/Rin/Mae — 09/23/2020
Mild panic creeps into her chest at the pause. Shit, was she not supposed to say his full name? Was that considered rude? Which name was she supposed to call him? Just Corvus? The soft claps from the Archfey snap her back to reality and she lets out the breath she didn’t realize she was holding with a shaky chuckle.

“Of course, Your Grace, titles are just as important, and often hard earned. It would be rude to ignore them after you’ve so kindly introduced yourself to include them.”

She keeps steady eye contact as her price is detailed for her, head tilting to the side ever so slightly in curiosity. Two letters of her name. What a peculiar request. How exactly does one prove oneself to a being of such regard? Surely he wouldn’t be so upfront with information like that. She’s never really given much thought to whether she needs specific letters of her name or not, what does that even mean? Maybe it’s a ‘you don’t know what you have until it’s gone’ sort of thing. Wait, can he see the future? Can he see her future? All of these questions bubble to her lips but she reminds herself of the delicacy and urgency of the situation, and thinks better than to ask them. Instead, she simply nods.

“Well, hopefully there will be a next time if I am to earn these letters back someday. Let’s see,” she taps a finger to her chin in thought, “you may have the ‘a’, and...the ‘t’ from my proper first name. They’re pretty good ones as far as letters go, I think, and I trust they’ll be well in your care.”
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/23/2020
Corvus nods and reaches his hand out, shaking both Ella's and Fish's hands. "The bargain is agreed to. You shall have your invitations, along with the others." He turns to regard Velvetine. "Now, if there is anything else you require of us...?"
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/23/2020
Vhalias glances at Ella and Fish, nodding at them. “Unless you have questions for His Grace, I think you two can go if you like. I have a question I wanted to ask, but it’s only to do with myself.” Regardless of whether they leave or not, they fold their arms, leaning against the bar. “I wanted to ask you something about my price.”
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/23/2020
Corvus tilts his head back and forth at Vhalias, examining closely. "We thought our terms were fairly straightforward. Your first child on the eve of their eleventh year would come with us, and you would see them once more at the close." He leans on the cane. "We have already seen to the terms of the bargain. The price is paid, it is out of your hands, Velvetine."

Val grimaces from the table. This... probably wasn't going to go well.
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/23/2020
Vhalias shakes their head. "No, that's not what I'm getting at. I'm not looking to renegotiate the terms or anything. I shook on it, I know better. I've just been... curious as to why you would ask it of me in particular. The Witch King told me you set your prices by cause and effect. What reason would you have to ask me for my firstborn child, when clearly you can see why I wouldn't have one in the first—"

They pause. Something in Corvus' wording sticks out. "Wait. What do you mean, 'the price is paid'?"
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/23/2020
Corvus fixes Velvetine with an even stare. "We met the Price Child. Asenath, she wished us to call her." The head tilts again. "We never said the word 'born'. First child." He caws, low in his throat. "Your beloved adopted her. Took her in. You are with them. They are your child just as much as theirs."

He taps his cane on the floor, cawing again. "The price has been paid."
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/23/2020
Vhalias blinks, staring at Corvus dumbly. 'Never said the word born'.

Asenath. Asenath. Daemin's...

Sene?!

Vhalias panics inwardly. That seals the deal. Daemin is most certainly not going to forgive them, even if they do manage to bring them home, and they just ruined Sene's life to do it. Game over.

They take a deep gulp of their stormwhiskey, setting the glass down, and bring their hands to their face, palms together as they take a deep breath. They look pale.

"I... see. Th-thank you for... elaborating, Your Grace." They dare not ask what Corvus intends to do with Sene. They are too cowardly to face it.
Jeff [Bradash/Val/Tenoch] [H/H] — 09/23/2020
Corvus betrays no emotion on his face, tilting his head the other way and studying Vhalias. "You are very welcome, Velvetine. We are glad we could clear up this confusion. Should any other rescuers have a question on their price..."

"The young Witch King will elaborate." Val offers from the table. "I've committed the prices to memory and will further act as a go-between until all the prices have been fulfilled."

Corvus nods. "Capital! I believe we are done here, then, yes?" Corvus chirps, clicking his beak together as he drops the usage of the 'royal we'. He taps his cane on the floor once more. "I will take my leave, then. Give my humblest thanks to your Masters for hosting me once more."

Tethra flies down to the table to watch his liege leave. As Corvus glides out of the room, the birds depart with him.
ro | pea/vhal/arch | t/t — 09/23/2020
Vhalias' mouth feels full of cotton as they nod, offering a bow. "O-of course, Crow King."

After Corvus is gone, they nod to Val and make their way to the stairs, dragging themselves up to their room to process. And scream.
