Hakon
Hakon enjoyed the brief break from non stop training. Space travel was long, and boring, and as such their commanders kept them in constant rounds of training drills. They rotated through the training holo rooms. When not in the training room they were running drills in the cargo bays as room allowed, or running the decks of the ‘Axe Tooth’.
Now they had finally returned to the Jom System. They would be stuck on system for two weeks still as they under went the standard quarantine before being allowed on the world of Jom. The crews of the three starships of the line of the 113th Legion would enjoy a short break from all that training as they got caught up with local events, but before long they would be back at it until they got leave.
There was also the chance that now that the small fleet was back in a safe system, they would conduct ship maneuvers, perhaps even a round of wargames with other waiting Legions as was common for ships in orbit of Jom. The Order of Jom made sure to kept their warriors sharp.
Hakon made his way to the retinue quarters where they all shared their living space together. Thane Vault stood there with the rest of the Retinue in dress uniform, and Hakon glanced at them for a mere moment, before he moved to his bunk.
“Not curious?” Frea asked him.
“No,” Hakon said firmly, and continued to his bunk.
“Come on,” Frea said with a grin. “Best to get it over with.”
Hakon grunted. As far as he cared it was over with. There was no need to make a show over it.
“Thane Longreach is promoting you to Guard, better pay, but reward, and perks, not to mention precentage of the prize loot,” Champion Bull cut in.
“Not to mention the honor of being promoted to the rank of Guard when the retinue already had a full roster of Guards,” Frea added.
Hakon grunted again. He had already turned down one promotion. Frea was right, it was an honor, but it also meant that it was possible for him to be plucked from the retinue so long as the Thane agreed.
Each retinue had four of each rank, and while there were grades within them, a retainer was the lowest possible rank, and most were promoted within a year, but Hakon had retained the rank for twenty one months. Guards were also the most common rank to have more thank four of in a single retinue, but it was not a given.
Hakon let out a sigh. He had considered refusing the promotion again. A retainer was nice, simple, and he liked it. It also meant those that promotions would become more rare if he refused again. That wasn’t really an issue but for the fact that it could limit the chance of maintaining his position by Frea’s side.
Frea wanted to advance, and would one day run her own Retinue, Hakon knew that, and a retainer had little to no say to who they served once they had sworn their oath to them.
