Blair

King Oswald had taken her into the country side of Bastion for over a week. It had been a week of bliss, and a week she would not forget not did she wish to leave to return to the capital of Bastion. If not for her own brother’s departure she would have remained in the country instead of returning with her new husband.

Blair wouldn’t allow herself to miss the departure of her brother. After today she would have but a single day left to spend with her brother. It was their first full day back at the palace in the capital, and Blair had been requested to attend court.

Blair entered the courtroom of her husband with her handmaidens. She could see King Oswald on his throne surrounded lords, bishops, ministers and other important members of state. He was hard to make out from a distance, but his throne was raised just high enough that he sat a head above everyone as they stood.

The lords and ministers looked to Blair and made way for her as she and her handmaidens walked down the long hall of the court room. There were things that reminded her of her father’s own throne room on Goldenfields. Shared links she could see from their ancestors.

The King of Commonwealth of Drala sat on an ornate throne carved of wood. Unlike the plain seats which lined the courtroom, the throne of the king had every inch carved with features which had long ago started to wear with the test of time. The carved heads of armrests were of some great beasts rushing forward to where one rested their hands. Blair could not tell what they were. Much of their features worn down by hand upon hand resting on them.

Blair bowed deeply before the king her husband. “Lord king, my husband,” she said and lowered the top half of her bow in another bow and kept her eyes down.

The king smiled and stood. “My wife,” he said and clapped his hands as other lords joined him.

Blair bowed for a third time, and kept her eyes down. The clapping died down and she her heard husband speak again.

“Please rise,” the king said. “We are all equals in this chamber and while the queen of the Commonwealth is not technically a member of these chambers. They have long been granted honorary status to join in it’s debate.”

“I thank you lord king.” Blair said as she lifted her head. “I thank you and the fine lords, gentlemen and ladies of the realm and hope that I may live up to their and your expectations.”

“Of that I have no doubt you will,” King Oswald replied swiftly. “As the new queen of the Commonwealth it is important that you have your own sources of income so as to better be able to fulfill the duties required of you.”

Blair looked at her husband and tried to hide her confused state. She did not like to be caught unaware.

“I King Oswald Gisking of the Commonwealth of Drala hereby grant my beautiful queen and wife the lordships of several estates throughout the Commonwealth. Estates within the Daxholm System, Anchorage System, Isca System, Ambermere System, and Cinder System,” The king finished with a gleeful chuckle.

“Lord king you are too kind,” Blair said taken aback.

“Nonsense,” The king countered. “Now who disagrees?” The king asked the assembled lords.

Blair tried not to look about the room, but she couldn’t stop her eyes from wandering.

“Excellent,” The King shouted. “Now that that is out of the way I would like to propose that this court join me as I travel with my wife the queen to visit her new estates and lordships for a good steward must know the places they seek to rule.”

The chambers filled with noise as many of the lords and muttered back and forth.

“My lord king, such a trip would take months.” One of the lords called out.

“Yes. The people of the Commonwealth shall get to see their king and the ministers which rule their lives,” the king said with a large grin and smile. He rose his voice and continued to speak. “Surely the fine lords, gentlemen, and ladies of this court as our new gracious queen has so named you, can protest the need for the people to see their king?”

Blair watched but remained silent. Noise filled her ears but much of it nonsense. She noticed however the Crown Prince silent. Those around him remained silent as well

“I shall leave my staff to figure out the details, and prepare the fleet to a royal procession and we will remind the people of the Commonwealth that their King, and their new queen are there for them. That we will defend them from the many threat of the Commonwealth.”
