Magnus

Magon’s Hold, one of the many systems and worlds bearing the name of the famous clan which had ruled that section of space until forced to bend the knee to the Redmane kings of Warwick. The system itself was the largest system to hold the name Magon as nine billion called it home or were sworn to it from the nearby sub systems. With two billion on the world of Magon’s Hold itself, and at least another two billion on the ring world of Maygus.

Magon’s Hold was protected by Kingsport, and held it’s own large shipyard complex. It had long been a stronghold in that section of space, fighting the Tutha of Walhaz who would raid east, and than the Furse of the Great Savage Host. It became one of the Kingdom of Daxholm’s important forward bases outside Daxholm, and was quick to swear loyalty to King Osgar ‘The Great’, and the protection he granted from the Furse.

Now Magon’s Hold had little to fear from the former Furse Law, and the Tutha of Walhaz rarely reached that deep into the Warwick sector these days or since the creation of Uhtred’s Line.

Magnus brought his starfighter into formation as Major Oldseal pushed them for the first time in weeks for active training duties. The flight traffic in an out of Magon’s Hold was one of the busiest in the sector, and the Major had charged them with snap inspections of some of the ships coming in and out.

They weren’t the only squadron preforming the mission, and Magnus wondered if Captain Hull was looking for something, or just trying to get them experience in a busy system, and scanning civilian ships. It wasn’t their normal duties, and they were so far out from the ‘Greymark’ that if they ran into issues, or a ship fired on them, their only option would be to get in close and hull dance to avoid fire and hope the ‘Greymark’ didn’t take them out if it opened fire.

“Alright Green Squadron, fall back in formation with the ‘Greymark’, and prepare to jump,” Major Oldseal called out over the comms.

“Fuck, about time” Richard complained over the comm system.

“Shut it Green thirteen,” Lt Yoke, commander of their flight ordered sharply.

“I know, it’s been a long shift in the seat,” the Major said. They had spent sixteen hours patrolling the system. “But you, more than anyone wanted it.”

“I know, I know,” Richard responded. “Just didn’t think we would be custom officers,” he complained again.

“Your not a custom’s officer Green Thirteen, your an officer in the Commonwealth Forces, which means you do whatever the fuck you are told to do, and if that means assisting local customs, and enforcement forces, than thats what you do with a smile,” The Major told him.

Magnus let out his own sigh. Civilians were a pain in the ass. They all had something to complain about. It took too long to run their scans, they had cargo that had to reach their detestation by so and so date. They already went through customs in the last major system, the list went on and on, and Magnus was ready to be back in the sims and training for combat than dealing with civilians.
